Za's Pizza Pub
New York-style pizzeria site with an interactive Build-A-Za customizer, live open/closed status, and online ordering.
Za's Pizza Pub is a demonstration build we designed and produced in-house to show our approach for this kind of business. The demo runs live, but it is not an operating business site: ordering, booking, and checkout flows are for show, and nothing placed through them is fulfilled.
Local pizzerias compete against delivery apps that own the ordering moment and flatten every kitchen into the same grid of thumbnails. The brief for this concept: prove an independent shop's own site can be more fun to order from than the apps, and personable enough that regulars bookmark it.
The centerpiece is Build-A-Za, an interactive customizer that assembles a pie layer by layer as toppings are picked, turning the highest-intent moment of the visit into play. Around it we built a complete ordering flow, a live open or closed indicator driven by store hours, and a loud New York attitude in the type and copy that no aggregator listing could carry.
The demonstration makes the case that ordering direct can beat the apps on experience, not just economics. The customizer pattern generalizes to any configurable product, and the live-hours system removes the most common small-business web failure: a site that says open when the kitchen is closed.
How We Built It.
Concept & Voice
Concept & Voice
Established the shop's personality first, with loud type and copy that sounds like the counter, then designed the pages around it.
Build-A-Za Customizer
Build-A-Za Customizer
Designed and built the layer-by-layer pie builder, keeping every interaction fast and legible from topping choice to cart.
Ordering & Live Hours
Ordering & Live Hours
Wired the ordering flow and the open/closed indicator to store hours so the site always tells the truth about the kitchen.
Polish & Deploy
Polish & Deploy
Tightened animations, mobile ergonomics, and performance, then deployed the demonstration to its live environment.
